Congress’ “Super Committee” (also known as the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction) is a group of Senators and Representatives tasked with identifying $1.2 billion in federal budget cuts by Thanksgiving.
This week, AWHPC joins our coalition partner, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), in urging the Super Committee to recommend savings for the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM’s) budget by requiring the agency to manage horses on the range and avoid the costly roundups and removals that are breaking the bank of American taxpayers and devastating our remaining wild horse herds.

An internal combustion engine uses compressed gasoline-air mixtures that have a tendency to ignite prematurely rather than burning smoothly. This creates engine knock, a characteristic rattling or pinging sound in one or more cylinders. Octane in gasoline increases the temperature and pressure required to ignite the fuel, so it can withstand higher compression without reigniting. Thus it’s less likely to result in premature ignition, and therefore prevents knocking.

US wild horse advocates have filed a lawsuit questioning whether the Bureau of Land Mangement’s gathers amount to humane treatment.
The Wild Horse Freedom Federation (WHFF) filed a lawsuit and an application for a temporary restraining order against the bureau in Federal Court in Reno, Nevada on Wednesday.
The federation said that through its plaintiff, Laura Leigh, the issue of humane treatment will have its day in court.
